What is Interactive Biofeedback?

Interactive Biofeedback

‘Interactive biofeedback’, ‘active biofeedback’, ‘non-invasive neuro-stimulation’ ‘bio modulation’ all refer to a small number of electrotherapy devices which deliver high amplitude, highly variable signals to the body via a built in electrode and are highly effective in reduction of pain and functional restoration.

The signal from the device prompts a response from the body, the device then picks up that body response and changes the next subsequent signal based on the body’s response.  This continues while the device is in contact with the body, so effectively the device is working with the body.

RITM SCENAR products are the original ‘non–invasive, interactive biofeedback, neuro-regulator’ devices for pain relief -it’s all in the name really Self Controlled Energo Neuro Adaptive Regulator.

RITM SCENAR devices and therapy have been the subject of two A Current Affair stories in 2011 and have growing professional and personal markets in Australia. There are three professional devices in the SCENAR range:- the bioSCENAR, the Pro Plus and the Pro device and three personal devices: – the Sport D, the Sport and the Home.

The SCENAR devices are listed in Australia with the Therapeutic Goods Authority for use to alleviate pain and assist with functional restoration. SCENAR Therapy may be used to treat pain associated with: musculoskeletal problems, surgery, trauma, bursitis, dental problems as well as being suitable for physical therapy and during labour.

Key Series

The Key Series devices are the most recent variation of interactive biofeedback device but the design and ease of use make them a strong contender in the market. Developed with the assistance of one of the Russians involved in the development of the original SCENAR devices, the physiokey (for professional use) and sanakey (for personal use) devices also incorporate iontophoresis so the devices may also be used in conjunction with creams and gels.

The physiokey and sanakey are listed in Australia with the Therapeutic Goods Authority to reduce acute and chronic pain, improve blood circulation, perform passive muscle stimulation and to restore functional restoration.

Interactive biofeedback may not be for everyone and the following are contraindications to use:

  • a heart pacemaker
  • pregnancy
  • serious mental illness
  • acute obscure infectious diseases
  • individual intolerance and
